Sameness

i get so bored with the sameness of most characters. it's like artists go out of their way to create these dynamic body positions, clothing, and environments for their characters yet they use the same cooke cutter format when drawing the 'race' of the character. and it's not that everyone is just white, if it's a female she's in her early 20's, a annorexic, and extremely buxomy. as for men they at least have a wider range but still conform to some basic structures. and then everyone like always has blue eyes, not to be harping because i personally think the italian way of having blue eyes and dark brown hair is oh so sexy, but come on people. i even started noticing in animated commercials that, particularily with animals, the majority of the caricatures have blue eyes, even though in nature that often denotes blindness or some other form of illness. and when other ethnicities are introduced, in america, they're black. and with women they like almost always have a fro. what gives? even on that new show on fx ' black and white' they gave the mother this horrible fro, who the hell wears their hair like that nowadays? (i have to note that all of the parents looked pretty bad, yet the special effects people did a pretty decent job with the kids).
i'm totally guilty of this facat and have tried to create more individuality amongst my characters. i bought these really great books, 'portraits'- that national geographic one that is the precursor to 'in focus'; and fruits- the oh so amazing and technical look at japanese harajuku style. if anyone else know's about books that for the majority contain full body photos of not only people of different ethnicities but also different age groups and body types i'd really appreciate a heads up to add to my reference books.
